What is the Family Matters clinic?
The QLaw Foundation Family Matters Clinic is a full-representation legal clinic that helps LGBTQ families get legal orders affirming their legal parental relationship to the children they are raising.   "Full representation" means that client families will be assigned an attorney who will work with them from start to finish.

How do I know what kind of legal paperwork my family needs?

You might have done your own research already and have a pretty good idea of what you want.  You might even have gotten a free consultation at one of our LGBTQ Legal Clinics!  But if you're not sure, that's okay too - our attorneys can help you figure out what is best for you.

How long will it take?
Depending on the family's needs, attorneys may work with client families for approximately one month (e.g. confirmation of parentage order) or may work with client families for several months (e.g. de facto parentage, second or third parent adoptions).  Social workers will work with client families for a shorter period, as needed to complete court-required placement reports.  QLaw Foundation estimates the first clinic will start serving client families in August 2019, with two more clinics, each serving approximately ten client families) occurring in January and June 2020.  So even if you are not available to assist clients right away, there will be opportunities to serve client families later on.

How soon can we start?
